To kick off Maverick Art Space's second half of 2017, we are proud to exhibit recent graduate of a Masters of Fine Art at QUT (Brisbane) & Bribie Island resident, Aaron Butt.
Aaron Butts on going series Missed Encounter series continues to explore his subjective, unexpected affective response to found photographs and objects which are simultaneously disavowed and re-enacted in order to problematize the relationship between the works origin and reception.
We hope you can join us for the opening night of this special occasion opening on; 29th July from 6-9PM.
A few images from our last opening night Michael Motteram-Smith (Shmick). Great crowd and a great evening of unique artwork by this young artist. Thanks again - Burleigh Brewing Co. for the refreshments and support.
Michael Motteram-Smith (aka Shmick Creations) is a freelance artist from Northern NSW, specialising in large scale murals, illustration, visual art installations and digital design. Through many years and long hours of practice and persistence Shmick's unique style of painting and illustration has really come into its own. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and his work has begun to be recognised internationally.
Following years of perfecting his craft, Shmick's painting is a form of meditation. He channels great thought and creative energy into each piece, showing people something they may have never seen before. He does this through some of the most visually impressive graffiti pieces we’ve seen in a long time, using vibrant colours and shapes to explore deep into his imagination.
OPENING NIGHT // Saturday 3rd June // 6.00 - 9.00PM // WITH SPECIAL GUEST DJ'S

OPENING NIGHT // Saturday April 22nd / 6.00-9.00PM
Paul Parker is an original and unique Gold Coast painter, living only just around the corner in Tugun. He delves his art between the figurative and the subconscious through mixed mediums. Pushing and pulling paint whilst listening to heavy music that inspires his work along the way.
My work is the transportation for my escape... a process of filtration, sifting through memories, lyrics and terrain... all unbound as passed through my eyes, ears and internal dialogue... in mediums that are chosen in part through automation and in part through exploration of materials… As a keen purveyor of the heritage of mark making, my work evolves and revolves around practise based research. My compulsion is to form; consumption can only be for the interpretation of the viewer.

We have officially Launched our summer exhibition program for this year and boy are we in for a doozy. First up we have local artist, Kymberley McElroy, with Fabricated.
Kymberley McElroy’s practice interrogates the relationship between memory and the mnemonic function of objects and imagery. Drawing from personal experiences, archives and associated memories, McElroy’s interdisciplinary practice weaves together the immediacy of photography and the considered slowness of embroidery to reinterpret, reconstruct and inscribe narrative.
18 FEBRUARY - 14 MARCH 2017

I consider myself a watcher, a viewer... my work is the transportation for my escape... my work is a process of filtration... sifting memories, the other, lyrics, terrain and contemporary issues... all unbound and passed through my eyes, ears and internal dialogue... in mediums that are chosen in part through automation and in part through exploration of materials...studio based research… a belief in nothing really is rational, but it makes sense to the author... as a keen purveyor of the heritage of mark making, my work evolves and revolves around practise based research...my compulsion is to form...regardless and oblivious to the contemporary fashion of conformity... consumption can only be for the interpretation of the viewer... with a distaste for current popular repetition.... i can only forge on... joyous for given the delight to escape this mind and this time, through expression... hoist that rag...
Exploring mixed media and considering contextual ideas, ideally a discourse between the work and the viewer is applicable.
