Young Heroines 2 | Group Exhibition
Curated by Tess Bergan & Adrienne Kenafake
:: OPENING NIGHT: Saturday 11th August // 6-9PM ::
This year YOUNG HEROINES brings together the works of six south-east Queensland and Northern Rivers female artists:
Merinda Davies & Lowana Davies (UMWELT collective)
Tessa Bergan & Adrienne Kenafake (Agents of Confusion).
Together, through multidisciplinary approaches, their works embrace ideas of interior and exterior environments and look at the relationship between the body and space whilst engaging audiences with the distortion of scale.
Making waves this month is a motley crew of surfers who also make art. Follow the currents as they exhibit works at two local spaces: THE WALLS [Miami] and MAVERICK [Coolangatta].
SURF SALON is the inaugural ARTIST BOARDRIDERS CLUB [A.B.C.] exhibition. It's a celebration of Coral Sea camaraderie, contemporary surfrider culture, and art in our paradise city during the highly charged Quickie and Roxy Pros.

'Grounding' is the second solo exhibition from Cabarita based landscape painter, Dylan Cooper.
The series features his characteristic representation of rock formations but there has been a shift. Light floods dark places and a vibrant colour palette allows us to see the playful side of otherwise intimidating compositions.
Grounding takes a tour around the Giraween National Park, Queensland. Dylan uses multiple layers of mixed media on canvas. His pieces range from moody and desolate to vibrant and even calming. He allows light to play through the scene even in the darkest of settings. Through the use of palette knives, bold brushstrokes and rendering, he creates scenes that are texturally rich.
Dylans works invite you to pause and take in the scene as a whole, but also to step in and discover the secrets these monolithic formations hold.
Please join us for the Opening Night; 30th September from 6-9PM
Beverages will be supplied by Burleigh Brewing Co

A few images from our last opening night Michael Motteram-Smith (Shmick). Great crowd and a great evening of unique artwork by this young artist. Thanks again - Burleigh Brewing Co. for the refreshments and support.
Michael Motteram-Smith (aka Shmick Creations) is a freelance artist from Northern NSW, specialising in large scale murals, illustration, visual art installations and digital design. Through many years and long hours of practice and persistence Shmick's unique style of painting and illustration has really come into its own. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and his work has begun to be recognised internationally.
Following years of perfecting his craft, Shmick's painting is a form of meditation. He channels great thought and creative energy into each piece, showing people something they may have never seen before. He does this through some of the most visually impressive graffiti pieces we’ve seen in a long time, using vibrant colours and shapes to explore deep into his imagination.

Gold Coast emerging artist, Jay Jermyn (aka Veople) is breaking into the Coast's culture scene with a few things to say about his work. Jay has recently hosted his first exhibition "REPETITION RANDOMNESS" at Maverick Hair & Art Space art in Coolangatta on the Gold Coast. Jay's unique style of artwork goes alongside his highly psych-altered music.
The team at 98 Collections made this short clip of an interview with the artist and also captured the night of Jay Jermyn (Veople) solo exhibition; Repetition Randomness. The show is running in our art space until Saturday 27th of May. Thanks again - Burleigh Brewing Co. for the refreshments and support.

We have officially Launched our summer exhibition program for this year and boy are we in for a doozy. First up we have local artist, Kymberley McElroy, with Fabricated.
Kymberley McElroy’s practice interrogates the relationship between memory and the mnemonic function of objects and imagery. Drawing from personal experiences, archives and associated memories, McElroy’s interdisciplinary practice weaves together the immediacy of photography and the considered slowness of embroidery to reinterpret, reconstruct and inscribe narrative.
18 FEBRUARY - 14 MARCH 2017
OPENING NIGHT: SATURDAY 18th FEBRUARY // 6PM - 9PM // ALL WELCOME!
An art exhibition by local Tugun artist - Paul Parker - is happening right now in our Art Space. Pop by and see Paul's amazing work through until Saturday May 21st.
I consider myself a watcher, a viewer... my work is the transportation for my escape... my work is a process of filtration... sifting memories, the other, lyrics, terrain and contemporary issues... all unbound and passed through my eyes, ears and internal dialogue... in mediums that are chosen in part through automation and in part through exploration of materials...studio based research… a belief in nothing really is rational, but it makes sense to the author... as a keen purveyor of the heritage of mark making, my work evolves and revolves around practise based research...my compulsion is to form...regardless and oblivious to the contemporary fashion of conformity... consumption can only be for the interpretation of the viewer... with a distaste for current popular repetition.... i can only forge on... joyous for given the delight to escape this mind and this time, through expression... hoist that rag...
Exploring mixed media and considering contextual ideas, ideally a discourse between the work and the viewer is applicable.
